A Funeral For Ice

Roles: Director of Photography, Colorist, Editor

A Funeral for Ice is a feature documentary, two years in the making (currently in post-production), shot across Iceland, Mexico, and Oregon. The project lies at the intersection of documentary filmmaking and climate change research, exploring the funerals held for the Ok Glacier in Iceland, the Ayoloco Glacier in Mexico, and the Clark Glacier in Oregon. It delves into the themes of solastalgia and ecological grief through the experiences of the communities living closest to these vanishing glaciers.

Style: The visual approach features extreme close-ups and ultra-wide angles, with subtle camera movements and an anamorphic aspect ratio. Drone footage captures the expansive landscapes, while a Pro-Mist 1/2 filter enhances blooming highlights and creates softer tones. The film plays with the juxtaposition between clean and gritty shots, capturing human disturbances within fragile environments. The contrast ratio is moderate, adding depth to the imagery.

Color Palette: The film employs muted, subtle tones, with a particular emphasis on grays to reflect the somber themes and the changing environment.
